What is Neurosurgery?

At the core of the human body is the nervous system, which includes both the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. It has the vital job of transmitting signals to and from different parts of the body. Neurosurgery is the specialized medical field dedicated to the assessment and surgical treatment of those injuries and conditions that affect the nervous system. Neurosurgeons have undergone extensive training, allowing them to help patients with their brain, spine, nerve, or neurological issues, and achieve an improved quality of life.

What is Functional Neurosurgery?

This  subspecialty deals with disorders like chronic pain, epilepsy, and movement disorders (like tremors and Parkinson’s disease). Functional neurosurgeons improve your quality of life using special techniques  and implanting devices like nerve, spinal cord and brain stimulators.

Dr. Berk is double fellowship trained in Functional, Stereotactic and Restorative Neurosurgery.

Outstanding!! I'm so glad you were my Doctor. From our first phone consult to office visits, pre and post surgery and calls to check up on me you are a true professional and truly care. This is my 3rd surgery on this area and I wish you could have done my first, so I wouldn't have needed the others.  I was able to go home the same day and by day 5 (today) I'm just a bit sore from the incision. I put this surgery off for many years and the pain it relieved was so much more than the pain from the surgery. I felt great after 2 days.    To Dr. Berk  and staff, thank you so much!
